Chandina Branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited was inaugurated as its 211th Branch at Hazi Ali Mansion, Chandina Bazar, Chandina, Comilla on Sunday, December 13, 2009. Alhajj Prof. Ali Ashraf MP inaugurated the Branch as Chief Guest. Presided over by ATM Ataur Rahman, former Secretary, Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad and Director of the Bank, the program was addressed by Md. Nazmul Ahsan Mozumder (Ripon), Chairman, Chandina Upazila Parishad and Mossamat Hazera Khatun, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Chandina as Special Guests. The program was also addressed by Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director and Head of International Banking Wing, Md. Shamsuzzaman, Executive Vice President and Head of Comilla Zone and Md. Rafiqullah Tapadar, Manager of Chandina Branch of the Bank. Md. Aiyub Ali, Principal of Chandina Womens’ Degree College and Md. Mofizur Rahman, Secretary of Chandina Businessmen Association and Tapan Bokshi, Businessman, addressed the program from among the local elites.

Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited opened a total of 15 Branches this year including Chandina Branch at Comilla, Kotchandpur, Jhenaidah, Khagrachhari, Sunarganj of Gaibandha, Fulbaria of Mymensingh, O.R. Nizam Road of Chittagong, Matlab of Chandpur, Bhandaria of Pirojpur, Sreenagar of Munshiganj, Mohadevpur of Naogaon, Zinda Bazar of Sylhet, Badda and Motijheel of Dhaka, Borogola of Bogra & Raojan of Chittagong and 10 SME service centeres at Fultala of Khulna, Muktagachha of Mymensingh, Shantahar of Bogra, Daudkandi of Comilla, Kahalu of Bogra, Kalampur of Dhaka, Boro Darogarhat of Chittagong, Akhaura of Brahmanbaria, Borhanuddin of Bhola Sonargaon of Narayanganj.

Alhajj Prof. Md. Ali Ashraf MP in his speech as Chief Guest said, IBBL has been progressing fast by conducting business with honesty and sincerity and keeping important role in the socio-economic development of the country. He emphasized on development of client service and quality of the Officials and Employees of the Bank to face the present competition.

He said, the other Banks should also come forward in development of rural industries beside large industries of the country. For this we have to create small and medium enterprenures. He called upon the Banks to come forward in development of rural industries and socio-economic development of rural area. He praised the social activities of IBBL.
ATM Ataur Rahman in his presidential speech said, IBBL has kept the number one position in deposit, investment, import, export and remittance and the faith of the people of the country is behind this success. He expected that this faith of the people will continue in future.

Seminar on Islamic Economics and Banking

On the occasion of inauguration of Chandina Branch as the 211th branch of the Bank a Seminar on Islamic Economics and Banking was organized on Saturday, 12 December, 2009 at the Branch premises. Principah Mohammad Serajul Islam, member of Shariah Council of the Bank addressed the Seminar as Chief discussant. Presided over by Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director & Head of International Banking Wing of the Bank, the seminar was addressed by Moulana Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Ashrafi, Head Muhaddis of Chandina Al Amin Kamil Madrassa. M. Shamsuzzaman, Executive Vice President and Head of Comilla Zone of the Bank delivered welcome speech in the Seminar.
