Zindabazar Branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited was inaugurated as its 206th Branch on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Gallaria Shopping Complex, Zindabazar of Sylhet. Prof. Abu Nasser Mohammad Abduz Zaher, Chairman, Board of Directors of the Bank inaugurated the branch as the Chief Guest. Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Director of the Bank, Md. Jahangir Alam, General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Sylhet, Abdul Qader Chowdhury, Chairman, Alhamra International Limited and Muktabis-un-Noor, President of Sylhet Press Club were present in the Program as Special Guests. Presided over by M. Fariduddin Ahmad, Managing Director of the Bank, the program was addressed by Md. Kabir Hossain, Executive Vice President and Head of Sylhet Zone and Md. Nuruzzaman, Manager of Zindabazar Branch. The program was addressed from among the local elites by Sarder Samsul Haque Shahin, Managing Director of Sylhet City Center, Shapan Kor, Proprietor of K.B. AD, Zindabazar and Dr. Saef Ahmed, Managing Director of Al-Banna General Hospital.

Prof. Abu Nasser Mohammad Abduz Zaher in his speech as Chief Guest said, responsibilities of this Bank is to all the 15 crore people of this country, not to any person, cast or party. Our service is open for all. He expected that IBBL is number one Bank, and all the branches of this Bank should be number one Branches.

He said, IBBL has been giving latest banking facilities by establishing online branch network. The Bank has been able to establish itself as the top Bank in deposit, investment and foreign trade. This success of ours is to be continued.

M. Fariduddin Ahmad in his presidential speech said, usury is not only the cause behind global recession but speculation and gambling have been pointed as the main causes of this recession. He said, IBBL is the first interest free bank of the country. IBBL was established with a view to free the nation from the bad effect of interest and establish Islamic Economics. IBBL has brought facilities for the people of Zindabazar to do interest free Islamic banking by establishing this branch. He expected that it will bring motion in the financial activities in Zindabazar. He called upon the people to receive the cordial service of IBBL. He also called upon the businessmen and the women entrepreneurs to take the service of this Bank.

Seminar on Islamic Economics and Banking

On the occasion of inauguration of Zindabazar Branch as the 206th branch of the Bank a Seminar on Islamic Economics and Banking was organized on Saturday, 17 October, 2009 at the Branch Premises. Dr. Hasan Mohammad Moinuddin, Member of Shari’ah Council of the Bank and Assitant Professor of Dawah & Islamic Studies Department addressed the Seminar as Chief discussant. Presided over by M. Fariduddin Ahmad, Managing Director of the Bank, the seminar was addressed by Prof. Syed Akmal Mahmud of Sylhet International University and Principal Moulana Md. Lutfur Rahman of Shahjalal Jamea Islamia, Pathantula, Sylhet.
