O.R. Nizam Road Branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited was inaugurated as its 201st Branch on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at M.M. Tower, 1105, Asian Highway, Chittagong. M. Fariduddin Ahmad, Managing Director of the Bank and Dr. Golam Mortuza, President of Bangladesh Medical Association, Chittagong inaugurated the Branch as Chief Guest and Special Guest. Presided over by Abul Hossain, Head of Chittagong Zone and Executive Vice President of the Bank, the program was addressed by A.S.M. Rezaul Karim, Assistant Vice President & Branch Manager of the Bank. The program was addressed by A.S.M. Kamal Pasha, Managing Director of Meridian Group, Neazer Rahman, Managing Director of Hera Holdings, Abu Bakar Siddique, Advisor of Chittagong Stock Exchange and Afsar Uddin Chowdhury, Editor and Publisher of Dainik Karnaphuli from among the local elites.

M. Fariduddin Ahmad in his speech as Chief Guest said, IBBL is the first interest free bank of the country. IBBL was established with a view to establishing Islamic Economics and to free the nation from the bad effect of usury. Many other Banks have started Islamic banking activities following IBBL. This is undoubtedly our success.

Seminar on Islamic Economics and Banking

On the occasion of inauguration of O. R. Nizam Road Branch of the Bank a Seminar on Islamic Economics and Banking was organized on Saturday, 12 September, 2009 at the Branch Premises. Sheikh Moulana Mohammad Qutubuddin, Chairman of Shari’ah Council of the Bank and Chairman of Baitush Sharaf Anzuman-e-Ittehad Bangladesh addressed the Seminar as Chief discussant. Presided over by M. Fariduddin Ahmad, Managing Director of the Bank, Md. Giashuddin Talukder, Assistant Professor of Arabic Language Department of Chittagong University addressed the seminar.
